He is in practice with Rainier Orthopedic Institute, operating out of the offices in Puyallup and Bonney Lake, Washington. After completing medical school at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1982, followed by an internship at Madigan Army Medical Center, Dr. Johnston served a little over a year as a flight surgeon in Korea. After completing his orthopedic surgery residency at Madigan Army Medical Center, he became a flight surgeon and served in Korea and in Desert Storm with the 28th Combat Support Hospital. Dr. Johnstone has served as chief of orthopedics, orthopedic residency director, and chief of surgery at Madigan Army Medical Center. Furthermore, he conducted a fellowship in orthopedic hand surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
